NCSC advises businesses to act following Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

cyber security threat to businesses

Cyber security should be at the top of your priority list right now. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) warns there is an increased threat to businesses of possible cyber-attacks. This follows the West’s imposition of sanctions on Russia.

Advice from the NCSC is to ensure your organisation is resilient against cyber threats. Part of GCHQ, the NCSC said it “strongly encourages organisations to follow our guidance on steps to take when the cyber threat is heightened”.

What should you do?

As a business owner, you can stress the importance to employees of the risk. Ask them to look out for any unusual activity and remind them of how to spot potential ransomware and malware, especially from incoming emails.

As the NCSC states, moving to a heightened alert can help prioritise necessary cyber security work. If this was something on your to-do list and you haven’t gotten around to it yet, now is the time to get it sorted.

In addition, changing the alert level to ‘high’ can offer a temporary boost to defences. If your current offering isn’t as effective as it should be, you can ensure you get that extra protection that you might need.

Furthermore, if you’re on the lookout, your organisation will have the best chance of preventing a cyber-attack at a crucial time when it may be more likely to occur. In doing so, you can make a much quicker recovery and minimise the damage.

Take action now.

Make sure that the fundamentals of cyber security are in place in your organisation in order to protect your networks and systems as well as your employees’ devices.
